The Challenge

D&L Equipment, based in Kensett, Iowa, worked with a Southern California vegetable farm to meet a specific need: custom wheels and tires for a new Kioti HX1402 tractor. The tractor needed a specialized wheel spacing of 80", center-to-center, to enhance crop clearance and overall performance in the field.

Wold’s and D&L’s Custom Solution

Justin Kruger from Wold worked alongside D&L Equipment to analyze the tractor’s original tire and wheel specifications and provide a custom solution that would suit the grower’s needs. “After documenting the original tire and wheel specs, I made a recommendation on the right tire size to ensure the tractor could perform as needed,” Kruger explains.

The solution involved upgrading the front tires from 380/85R28 to 320/85R34, paired with 34x10 wheels that bolted directly onto the tractor’s original steel center discs. For the rear tires, the 460/85R38 setup was swapped for 320/90R50 tires, with 50x10 wheels also attached to the existing center discs. This custom configuration was designed to improve crop clearance, an essential factor for vegetable production in the region’s terrain.

Dealer Feedback and Future Potential

D&L Equipment, the dealer responsible for the sale, was extremely satisfied with the outcome. “The setup turned out exactly as the customer desired, and we’re hopeful that the customer will want more units configured the same way,” Kruger notes. The dealer also mentioned that the farm’s neighbors had expressed interest in the custom setup, which could potentially lead to more projects in the area.
